3 They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!

Lord of the Rings Charlie wants to read LOTR
Charlie wants to read with me!

At the moment I'm about 170 pages in, and my copy has all three books in one (with a movie cover which I loathe so much ... I don't like books with movie still covers), so I know it's over 1,000 pages, though I'm not sure off the top of my head exactly how many.

See, I've seen the movies a bunch of times, and on Saturday, Dan, Chris, and I watched them all in a row (it was a long day) and I started the book a while ago before I went to England, but didn't finish it. So now that I've finished The Chronicles of Narnia, I've decided to embark upon the quest that is The Lord of the Rings. I firmly believe you can't be a true nerd* of a book-based movie series unless you've read its origin, which means before I can be a real LOTR nerd, I have to read all of the books, and I'll probably re-read The Hobbit soon, too.

This was one of two series on my 21 Before 21, the other being Narnia, and I'm very excited to get this goal accomplished!

Have you read LOTR?

*Note: You can still be a nerd. I just think there's a level of nerdiness that being well-versed in both the books and movies gives you that just one form won't.

3 kind words:

  1. I read The Hobbit and all The Lord of the Rings book a few years back as part of my 43things list. At times they were tough to get through, but I was determined and I did it. I really did enjoy them and I love the films too. I'm a nerd.

  2. I've read LotR many times. My dad bought me the Hobbit and a box set of LotR when I was 11 because my school library wouldn't loan them to me. (They thought I was too young and I informed them I had read all of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories.) My dad and I have a bond over LotR.

The books are SO beautiful. There are many things I wish Peter Jackson had kept in, but I can understand that the movies probably would have been 4 hours long...or longer. :)

  3. I read and reread the Hobbit over and over again since first picking it up in middle school; I'm surprised I don't own a copy! But I keep reading Fellowship, getting sidetracked, and never finishing the series ><; Really need to buckle down here xD Having them all in one binding is really nice though! (sans movie cover -- I hate them too)
