7 Cross One Off

daily planner
My daily planner. The highlighted things are done, the crossed off things never got done, and ... I forgot to cross off "blog posts" on Friday. P.S., STD is the English Honors Society. No worries, folks!

Okay, it's not exactly a giant leap into this great big world of maturity, but I'm a little proud of myself at the moment and so felt it necessary to do some sharing.

I am a procrastinator.

Yep. I admit it. I'll be the first to admit it in a room full of deniers. It's just how I've always been about everything, but then ... something changed. Something clicked inside of me that said, "Hey, you know how people always say it's better not to procrastinate? Yeah, it's true."
And it is true! I know there are people who work well (sometimes even better) under pressure, and I definitely do papers fine that way, but I think in general it's much more beneficial for me to, y'know, not procrastinate.

Why did I realize this?
Because last week I worked really, really hard to get my homework done before the weekend. I tried to do as much as I possibly could on Friday, so I could spend the weekend not worrying about it. I had a few things left to finish Saturday morning, but as soon as they were done, there was this strange feeling of relief that I so rarely get because I procrastinate.

It was actually kind of awkward.

I'm so used to always watching TV while at the same time thinking, "I should be doing my homework." This weekend there was none of that. I spent all of Sunday in bed sick and had absolutely no guilt about doing nothing.

I know it's only about two weeks into the semester, but that might be the longest I've ever been this timely with my work, so I think that maybe, just maybe, I've grown up a bit more this school year.

7 kind words:

  1. That is great news! And definitely very true. I hope you'll get to keep this up, though you probably can as in the end not procrastinating leaves you with a lot of extra time:)

Also congrats on the 200 followers!

    1. Thank you! I'm really loving the extra time, so I'm thinking (hoping) it's a habit I'll keep at. :)

  2. I know what it's like to procrastinate and have that feeling of "having to do something" while you actually just want to relax or do something wrong. Right now I'm procrastinating doing the dishes.

I also know what it feels like to get something done before you relax, and that is a great feeling. So yay to you, will you be doing more non-procrastinating? Think you could get used to the feeling of "being done"?

    1. I certainly hope I'll be doing more! I think if I keep reminding myself that I already know I'm capable of not procrastinating, then it'll help me to continue. And I DEFINITELY could get used to the feeling, as odd as it is at the moment. Hahah.

  3. I am a HUGE procrastinator! But I got this amazing planner for Christmas (Erin Condren) and I've been actually staying on top of things. It just feels so good to check things off the list. Plus, I think a lot of my procrastination had to do with no proper planning. I'd totally forget something was due until hours before it was actually due, and then I'd be scrambling. This way it's all laid out, I can look at syllabi ahead of time and put it in. Planners are lovely. :) Congrats on having a relaxing weekend! I just found your blog through I blog for me and I am your newest follower! Super adorable!

  5. I had the same kind of thinking-shift about getting things done, several years ago! It's so weird how you can just change a habit like that out of the blue!
